Global Schools’ lesson plans are now available in Georgian!

“The Global Schools Program aims to incorporate sustainable development into schools globally by training young volunteers to advocate for the incorporation of the SDGs and global citizenship education into schools in their local communities.”

— Former United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon

The Global Schools Program is an initiative of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network in support of UNESCO’s Global Action Program on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

Global Schools’ mission is to create a world where every primary and secondary school student is equipped with the knowledge, values, and skills necessary for effectively responding to the greatest challenges of this century and shaping a sustainable and prosperous world. Global Schools adopts two key approaches in its global strategy to implement Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in schools and classrooms: grassroots advocacy and outreach to schools, as well as research partnerships with universities to design localized curriculum. ESD fosters leadership and 21st century skills in students, empowering them to engage in the global movement for a more sustainable future, while inspiring schools to play a critical role in achieving the SDGs by 2030. Global Schools supports educators and schools in creating more equipped students and societies to deal with the new and pressing challenges of the 21st century.

Through research and advocacy, Global Schools develops the tools, resources and programs to support education systems around the world in shaping a more resilient and sustainable world.

The role of schools in creating a better world

Schools are the core foundations of our society, and the world is relying on schools to prepare children for the future, while empowering them to create a better world. Today schools and educators are rethinking their role in the 21st century, and redefining their purpose as agents of change. Schools not only have the responsibility to create better societies through educating their students, but also to significantly improve the academic skills and wellbeing of their students.

More than 60 lessson plans developed by professionals to help primary and secondary schools students learn about the Sustainable Development Goals, have been translated into the Georgian Language by members of SDSN Youth Black Sea!
